Responsibilities and Expectations for the KCB Music Director

Responsibilities

  • Chooses music for the band with input from band members.
  • Leads rehearsals and concerts.
  • Arrives at rehearsals and concerts with the scores prepared, knowing the music, and ready to
    conduct the music in a confident, firm, and focused manner.
  • Provides information to the band on the pieces to be rehearsed prior to rehearsals and
    provides concert playlists prior to concerts.
  • Provides musical direction to the band during rehearsals.
  • Works with the executive to ensure the health and continuity of the band.
  • Discusses with individual band members, as necessary, musical or playing issues when their
    playing is disrupting the ability of the band to play together.
  • Assists with finding substitute musicians, when necessary.
  • Attends executive meetings.Assists with finding a substitute conductor when the Music Director will be absent.
  • If the opportunity arises, can help with obtaining concerts for the band.

Expectations

  • Takes control of the rehearsal and is in charge.
  • Does not let the band members disrupt or run the rehearsal.
  • Keeps the focus on playing and musical direction.
  • Conducts rehearsals in a firm, controlled manner, not allowing too much chatting and ensuring
    that most of the rehearsal time is spent playing.
  • Communicates in a firm and respectful manner.
  • Arrives on time.

Rehearsals

  • Time:  Wednesday nights from 7:30 – 9:30 pm.
  • Location:  Kirkland Park Chalet, 81 Park Ridge Road, Kirkland, QC H9J 1P9. Park Ridge Chalet Map
  • Access to the chalet is available as of 7:00 pm, and street parking is available in front of the
    building.
